The King's School, Peterborough

Saunders Boston has been involved in multiple capital improvement programme of this secondary school in Peterborough. The projects include two significant new build teaching blocks one for Humanities and the second for Science. Other projects include alterations to the original ‘Victorian’ block which houses teaching and school administration. The combined value of the schemes are in excess of £7m.

SBA was appointed as Architect and Project Manager following a personal recommendation from the Diocesan Director of Education.  In all works at The King's [The Cathedral] School, Church of England secondary school in Peterborough for approximately 1,000 pupils.

The development forms part of the school's Capital Improvement Programme and comprises a major new Humanities classroom building as well as the provision of external hard surface sports pitches and refurbishment to the existing school science facilities.

A key aspect of the scheme was realizing the school's aspiration to create good teaching and learning environments.

Saunders Boston went on to design a new-build Sixth Form Centre and Languages teaching facility to facilitate the requirements of the curriculum and replace existing, outdated and inadequate classroom spaces.

The scheme incorporates strategies for both natural ventilation and energy saving within the teaching environment that removes the need for costly mechanical ventilation and cooling systems whilst aiming to reduce the energy consumption of the facilities.
