Saunders Boston was appointed as ‘delivery architect’ for this design and build project.

Working closely with the main contractor, design team and client team, Saunders Boston developed a full design within a highly constrained budget on a fast moving programme.

This project drew on 'My Place' funding from 'the big lottery fund' and incorporated the needs of numerous stakeholder groups. The concept design provided two contrasting contemporary architectural approaches. A 'solid shell' wrapped around a series of offset building elements with an inset translucent material. This helped to create the unique character of the design particularly at night.

The inset material was designed to maximise natural light into the building while giving an appearance that the wrapped element was floating freely around. The design also incorporated environmentally conscious features such as solar energy, grey water recycling and natural ventilation, achieving a BREEAM rating of 'Very Good'.
