Residential Conversion and Redevelopment

WINNER: Inside Housing Award – Top 50 Development

Saunders Boston Architects (SBA) provided a full Architectural service for RIBA stage 1-7 for this award winning development.

The project is a mix of new build and remodelling / refurbishment.

Working very closely with the local authority planners and conservation officers, full planning submission was achieved at the first attempt.

This scheme on the edge of Peterborough City Centre developed the former historic ‘Thurston House’ site owned by project client Accent Nene as a combination of Rented & Shared Ownership affordable housing.

In total the scheme provides nine semi-detached and terraced homes, twelve new apartments and four refurbished apartments in a historic building, Thurston House, which was retained and refurbished as part of the project

All of the new dwellings, including the multi-storey apartments, have been constructed using a timber frame structure and include sustainable features such as solar panels and a mechanical heat recovery / ventilation system (MHRV), achieving ‘Code for Sustainable Homes’ level 4.  In addition, all of the houses and flats have been designed and constructed to Lifetime Homes standards and the site has been designed to Secured by Design principles.
