Building work begins on primary school designed by Saunders Boston Architects

Construction work has begun on a new community-focused primary school at Wyton-on-the-Hill that will provide 300 places for children from families in the existing community and those moving into new houses due to be developed at RAF Wyton.

Saunders Boston Architects provided full architectural design and consultant services to Cambridge County Council through design and build contractor RG Carter.

Following the demolition of the previous school and caretaker’s accommodation last November, Saunders Boston Architects designed a two-storey school building and single storey pre-school with access, parking and landscaping.

The new school has been designed around a communal learning resource space which links the teaching spaces with the main hall, studio and pre-school. The team needed to retain all operational purposes of the previous site, while modernising the façade of the school. Trespa exterior panels in the school colours were used in the design to create a one-of-a-kind effect, determining the look and underlining the qualities of the building.
